Unity And The Bible

     Jesus is the central figure in our spiritual growth and is seen as our Elder Brother and Way-Shower.  He showed us the way to a greater awareness and expression of God in our lives, sometimes called enlightenment.  Jesus demonstrated, to a great degree, The spirit of God, the Christ nature that is in all of us.  However, much of the current Biblical study brings the old teachings about Jesus into question and leaves the doors open to personal understanding and acceptance of the man, the message, the myth and the monument that Jesus is. 

     Even in the light of these questions, however, Unity’s approach to the Bible remains strong.  The Bible is Unity’s foundational text and is seen as an allegory or collection of stories with a spiritual message.  When we interpret it in this way (metaphysically), we open ourselves to how the stories apply to our individual spiritual growth and how they demonstrate the evolution of human consciousness.  The Bible is an instrument of God’s guidance that will lead us to greater fulfillment in life and a fuller understanding of our wholeness and worth.
